Detailed Review Comments from Daily Rides

Wed., Oct. 15, 2008

I rode in the Maya saddle for one hour in an indoor arena, mostly at the jog and
lope. The saddle seems to fit my horse nicely, although I prefer a rounded skirt over
a square skirt. The square skirted saddles seem to pick up more of the motion from
my short backed horse¢s hind end, which makes her gaits feel much bouncier than
they do in a rounded skirt or an English saddle. I used a Supracinch and a non slip
Hilason treeless saddle pad with this saddle and it stayed quite stable on her back
even without the use of a breast collar. My mare seemed quite comfortable with the
saddle. I am pretty comfortable in this saddle but I prefer a suede seat over the
smooth leather seat. The suede is much grippier and helps to keep me more stable
in the saddle instead of feeling slippery like this seat does. The cushioned seat feels
comfortable but a little strange at first. I am sure it will break in and I will get used
to in time though. After the ride Tiara's sweat pattern was even and she seemed
comfortable after our ride.

Thurs., Oct. 16, 2008

I rode for an hour on a trail today with several steep hills. I mostly walked, but did
do a little bit of jogging and loping. I was pleased with how well this saddle stayed
put on my horse's back, even without the breast collar. I had to mount and
dismount several times to help a fellow trail rider and the saddle didn't budge. My
mare seemed quite content and moved forward and freely on the trail. Every time I
mounted back up on the saddle, the seat flap flipped up and got caught under my
leg which was a little annoying, but other than that, I was quite pleased with the
comfort and stability of the saddle and so was my mare. The seat is breaking in and
it doesn¢t feel as strange to me today as it did yesterday. Again she had an even
sweat pattern after our ride.

Fri., Oct. 17, 2008

I rode for 2 hours on a trail today with several steep hills again, this time I rode by
myself mostly at the walk with a little bit of jogging. This time, I used my smooth
leather chaps which helped give me a better grip on the seat. The saddle remained
quite stable and both my mare and I were comfortable. I'm used to the padded feel of
the seat now and am feeling much more at home in this saddle. My mare had an
even sweat pattern after our ride again.

Sat., Oct. 18, 2008

I rode for 2 hours in an indoor arena today at the walk, jog with some loping as
well. I wore full seat breeches with suede full chaps over them to see if that would
help keep me from sliding around on the smooth seat of this saddle. It did help. I'm
feeling much more at home in this saddle and I like where it places the rider's leg. It
feels much more underneath me in this saddle than in most Western saddles that
put the rider in a very ineffective "chair seat" with their legs out in front of them.
My mare seemed comfortable and had an even sweat pattern after our ride once again.

Sun., Oct. 19, 2008

I rode for 2 hours on a very hilly trail mostly at the walk with some jogging. We
went up and down many hills, crossed through mud and water and over several
bridges. This time, I used a regular neoprene cinch that doesn't attach to the back
flank straps instead of the Supracinch and the saddle wasn't nearly as stable. It kept
slipping over to one side and I had to constantly readjust it to make it straight. I
didn't use the breast collar because that¢s not a piece of equipment that I normally
use on this mare, even with treeless saddles. Even though there was some lateral
slipping issues, the saddle seemed quite stable from front to back going up and
down the hills. I felt relatively comfortable in the saddle on this very hilly trailed
and so did my mare. Her sweat pattern was pretty even but showed a small pressure
area on one side of her spine due to the fact that the saddle slipped over to one side.

Mon., Oct. 20, 2008

I rode for 2 hours in the indoor arena mostly at the walk and jog today. After almost
the entire trial period of riding, my mare still seems comfortable in this saddle. I'm
comfortable at the walk and jog, but loping is just not comfortable because of the
slippery seat and my mares bouncy feeling gait in this saddle. My mare did the best
jog she's ever done tonight, very relaxed and slow with her head hanging low, just
like a real Western horse (she's mostly English, so this was quite a feat for her). I
used the Supracinch again tonight and had no issues with the saddle moving at all.
I rode on the Port Lewis Impression pad to see if it would show any pressure points
between the saddle and my horse and I was pleasantly surprised to see the best,
most even impression that I¢ve ever seen since I¢ve owned this diagnostic gel pad!
That was really, really impressive to me because most every saddle shows some
kind of pressure point somewhere. She didn't show much of a sweat pattern in this
saddle at all tonight because we did lots of slow work, but the pattern in her coat
was even nonetheless. I think that if you found a different way to attach the front of
the seat other than velcro and made the seat out of suede, you¢d have one heck of a
nice saddle! Thank you for allowing me to test ride in this saddle. It's been mostly
a pleasant experience and every time I ride in a new saddle, I learn more about
saddle fit and what my preferences in tack are.

Maya Saddles Comments
We have added 2 Dees in the front to hold the front corners of the seat.
We now offer a suede seat to go with the saddle.

MS827 Saddle Review Report(Jenna Hill)
Jenna Hill
Jenna Hill has been riding for 29 years. She spent 20 years in the hunter ring and
the last nine she spent exploring every other aspect of English riding. She has
been riding Western for a few years.  She owns two draft cross mares - One a 9
year old Percheron/TB/QH and the other one is a 3 y.o. Friesian/Haflinger.  Tiara,
the older mare is very talented and Jenna and her do eventing, hunters, jumpers,
trail riding, volunteer mounted police work, drill team, musical ride, dressage,
hunter paces, exhibitions, driving, contesting and team penning.  Younger mare,
Jewel is a greenie and is under training. Jenna has been ridnig in Sensation English
Trail Saddle for 2 years now. She has an excellent knowhow of tack and she
contantly tries new tack and improvises them to meet her needs. Jenna uses Port
Lewis Impression Pad as a diagnostic tool to assess saddle fit.
Tiara
Tiara's registered/show name (she's a registered American
Warmblood) is Flying W Farms Trophy's Tiara.  Her
nicknames around the barn are T.T. and T-Rex. She's the alpha
mare at my farm and she isn't afraid to show it to the other
horses by baring her teeth.  Tiara is a saddle fitting nightmare
with her high withers, huge shoulder, dippy short back and
wide barrel.  I've tried over and over to find a treed saddle to fit
her but have been unsuccessful.    The dough disperses to
reveal any and all pressure areas when you ride with it once
under a saddle.
